A Writer and His Blog

In Thinking out aloud on June 7, 2010 at 3:55 pm

On this blog, I identify myself as a writer who is working towards completing his first book. But I’m not writing everyday. In fact, I don’t think I’ve written anything in over a month. That begs the question – am I writer?

Probably not. Not right now. Not at this moment.

I want to write but I don’t. The few times I sat down to write, the thoughts were all completely garbled. No words would flow from mind to paper. Of course, I didn’t sit long enough or often enough for the thoughts to gain some clarity.

Maybe that’s why writing a daily blog could help a lot of writers. It’s good to keep a private journal but a blog that anyone in the world could read, would keep a writer on his feet toes. And just the act of focusing on writing a short piece everyday should go a long way in unblocking any blocked/lazy writer. I say should because I haven’t tried it so far.

If I do start writing a small blog post everyday, I’ll definitely report back on how that is affecting my book writing.

Writing in bed

For a very long time, I wanted to buy a laptop. Time after time, I kept putting it off because I really didn’t need it. I had a PC at home and one at office and since I didn’t usually get work home, I reasoned I didn’t need one. A USB flash drive was sufficient to ferry the data. Another reason was that I never traveled with work.

But lately I’d started feeling an acute need for a notebook. The big reason was that I was getting more and more involved in internet marketing and felt the need for a PC everywhere I went. I have also become more focused on writing a book and while I could write on paper, I’m more comfortable doing it on a computer.

So here I am, with my newly purchased Dell Studio notebook, sitting comfortably in my bed with a warm blanket covering me and a slightly warm laptop on my lap, writing away.

This is something I could easily get used to. Wake up early and then before I got out from bed, tapping away a part of a book for about an hour, doze off for a while, wake up and write a bit more – my blogs, emails etc – all from my bed. Ah, the perks of a 9-5-job-free life!
